Brown Women Poetry makes its Melbourne Fringe debut this October, bringing together South Asian women poets for an intimate evening of original spoken word and poetry.
Following successful seasons across Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, the production returns with a new lineup of artists, each bringing their own voice, perspective and way of seeing the world to the stage. Their work is drawn from lived experience, memory, observation and imagination, creating a show that feels personal without asking any one poet to represent an entire community.
At the heart of Brown Women Poetry is the simple idea that there is no single South Asian story. Every poet arrives with something different to say, and the stage gives them the space to say it in their own way.
Brown Women Poetry is ultimately about the poets and the work they bring into the room; the humour, honesty and unexpected moments that can only really happen when a poem is heard live.
