Hello José
Hello José serves Mexican-inspired food and drink in a great little bar and dining space, just behind the Queen Vic Market.
Born as a passion project in 2015, Hello José is one of very few Mexican restaurants in Melbourne committed to handmaking corn tortillas the way they do on the streets of Mexico. While the little kitchen may be small, it pulls no punches when it comes to fresh, flavoursome food – think zingy ceviche, rich slow-cooked beef, classic fish tacos and spicy chipotle chicken wings.
As for drinks, there are Margaritas and everything tequila and mezcal related. And of course, icy cold cerveza.
The shop front on Peel Street is quite unassuming, but after you stroll past the open kitchen you emerge into Jose’s Cerveza Garden, a colourful tropical oasis that will instantly transport you to a laid-back beachside Taqueria.
