On Iridescence

  • Free
  • Art

Curated by Donald Holt, On Iridescence brings together a dynamic group of contemporary artists whose practices investigate the shifting relationships between surface, material and perception. Taking the optical phenomenon of iridescence as its point of departure, where colour, light and illusion emerge from remarkably thin surfaces. The exhibition considers how meaning is generated through the tension between appearance and structure.

Spanning generations and geographies, from Melbourne to Los Angeles, the exhibition presents new works by Melbourne-based artists Evelyn Dinham and Thom Lowry, alongside Paul Knight (NSW) and American artist Devin Farrand. With gratitude to Estate of Allan Mitelman, Void_Melbourne is also delighted to present a significant historic work, a 1995 oil on canvas by Allan Mitelman, offering an important dialogue between contemporary practices and one of Australia's most distinctive painters.

Opening event is Saturday 1 August from 4 pm.
