Her Majesty's Theatre

  • Entertainment
  • Theatre

Her Majesty's Theatre opened in 1886, at the time, the largest theatre in the Southern Hemisphere. From the original, elegant facade of the 1886 building through to the Art Deco luxury of the renovated interior of the 1930s, the theatre has been the home to all of Melbourne’s great musicals, as well as presenting opera, ballet, plays and concerts for over 130 years.

The theatre is also known for its associations with performers such as Dame Nellie Melba, Anna Pavlova, Eduard Borovansky and Joan Sutherland.

In 1986, in the year of her 100th anniversary, Her Majesty’s was classified by the National Trust and listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.
