German Opera: Der Freischütz

Step into a world of dark forests, romance, magic and mystery as Carl Maria von Weber's opera, Der Freischütz, arrives in Melbourne for two nights only as part of German Week Melbourne 2026.

Performed in the original German with English surtitles, this rarely staged masterpiece brings folklore, suspense and glorious music together in one unforgettable evening. Whether you're a seasoned opera lover or simply looking for a unique cultural night out, Der Freischütz offers a captivating journey into the heart of German Romanticism.

Make the experience even more special with our Premium Opera Package, including a Henkell Piccolo sparkling wine, German-inspired refreshments and exclusive pre-performance get together from 5:00pm with members and friends of the German-Australian community.
