Ruby Cheyne is an Australian classical guitarist and emerging artist currently undertaking her first year of undergraduate study at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, where she studies with renowned guitarist, composer, and Head of Guitar Ken Murray. Her artistic practice is centred on Australian composers and contemporary guitar repertoire, with a particular interest in the works of Phillip Houghton and Richard Charlton.
She is drawn to repertoire that explores the expressive, textural, and contemporary possibilities of the classical guitar, and is developing a distinctive artistic voice through her engagement with Australian and contemporary music. Her achievements include First Prize at the Altamira Guitar Festival Competition at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music in 2025, as well as First Prize at the Melbourne Guitar Festival Competition in 2019.
Her program for the Austral Salon of Music includes works by Villa-Lobos, J S Bach, Phillip Houghton and Manuel de Falla.
