Built in 1854 for Ferdinand von Mueller, Gardens House was positioned to enjoy a commanding view over the Gardens. It was home to William Guilfoyle and his family in the late 1800s. Successive Directors lived in the house until the mid-1990s. Whilst the interior has been remodelled several times, the outer structure has been maintained. The Georgian-influenced façade still features its charming neo-gothic porch. The National Trust of Victoria has classified the exterior as worthy of retention.
