Experience a stunning choral concert bringing together musicians and singers from Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Ane Ta Abia is created by the Australian Art Orchestra’s Artistic Director Aaron Choulai in collaboration with Papua New Guinea’s Tatana Village choir. This special one-off concert and film event features the Motuan singing style of Peroveta - from Choulai’s home village in PNG - and the distinct sounds of Australian jazz and composition.
Born from the 19th century colonisation of Papua, Peroveta transforms the traditional harmony, melody and rhythm of Western hymns into an entirely unique form of choral music, usually performed in marriage, death and birth rituals in Tatana.
This special performance brings together a 12-member choir from Tatana, 8-members of the Australian Art Orchestra and a series of short films. Ane Ta Abia celebrates Motuan culture with music rarely heard outside of these communities.
