The State Theatre, with its majestic stage curtain featuring hand-painted Victorian wildflowers, the state’s Coat of Arms, and an outspread lyrebird’s tail, is Arts Centre Melbourne's premier theatre and home to the Australian Ballet and Opera Australia.
Opened in 1984 and housed beneath Arts Centre Melbourne's signature spire, the 2085-seat State Theatre has one of the largest stages in the world, staging a range of events including ballet, music, Broadway musicals and grand opera.
