Have fun learning a new craft using hand-dyed raffia.
In this workshop you will learn how to make a small trinket basket or coaster using the wrapping stitch technique. You tutor Janet Troy has made a career of creating and teaching, first as a graphic designer, and later as a primary school art teacher. She is passionate about sharing her love for and craft of raffia.
Raffia comes from the leaves of a palm tree grown in various places around the world, but the best quality raffia is grown in Madagascar. It is sustainably harvested, so the trees continue to grow and produce for many years.
This class is suitable for beginners. All materials are included in the workshop fee, including raffia and a needle. Additional raffia can be purchased at the end of the workshop.
