Melbourne Arena is a multipurpose sports and entertainment venue, built in 2000 to extend Melbourne Park’s capacity to cater to the increasing crowds of the Australian Open tennis tournament.
The state-of-the-art facility can host a variety of sports including netball, basketball, tennis, boxing, and wrestling. Cycling also features prominently, with the venue boasting an internationally accredited 250 metre cycling track.
Other venue features include a fully retractable roof, dynamic seating configurations, concert quality acoustics, and corporate suites and function rooms. The arena hosted the 2006 Commonwealth Games cycling, netball, and basketball events.
The arena has also hosted an eclectic range of music concerts, family shows, dance parties, and the 2008 Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala.
