Italian Cinema Forum: Moving Out (1983)

  • Free
  • Workshop

Join Workshop #3 of the Italian Cinema Forum 2025, presented by Dr Mark Nicholls, in which he will make another investigation of the Italian experience in Australia with a discussion of Jan Sardi’s tale, Moving Out (Michael Pattinson, 1983. Original screenplay by Jan Sardi AO).

This sympathetic and amusing story of Melbourne in the early 1980s is presented through the point of view of Gino (Vince Colosimo), a first-generation migrant whose family is on the move again.

To help fathom these mysteries, Dr Mark Nicholls will be joined by the most distinguished guest – writer, screenwriter and director, Jan Sardi AO (Shine, Love’s Brother, Mao’s Last Dancer). Augmenting the usual format, Jan will offer insights into his creative practice and the history behind this most stimulating and engaging film. There will also be an opportunity for Q&A with Jan.

Clips will be shown as a basis for group discussion.
