Opened in December 1938, the Grainger Museum documents the life and career of internationally acclaimed musician and composer Percy Grainger.
The only purpose-built autobiographical museum in Australia, it has an interesting collection of objects directly related to Percy Grainger's compositional career, such as published scores and original manuscripts.
Recognised internationally as a major musical research resource, the heritage-listed museum also has more than 50,000 items, including diaries, ethnographic objects, furniture, decorative arts, photographs, artworks, clothing, and letters of correspondence with famous and not-so-famous contemporaries.
The Grainger Museum is part of the University of Melbourne Library and is open to the public on Monday only during University of Melbourne semesters (closed on public holiday); and also for public events throughout the year.
