Echoes of Descent

What does it mean to fall? ‘Echoes of Descent’ is a contemporary dance work that delves into the multifaceted experience of falling – through myth, science, and the human psyche. Inspired by both the legend of Icarus and Einstein’s “happiest thought,” this piece reimagines descent not as failure, but as freedom, where gravity becomes a force that unites rather than defeats.

Choreographer, India Stewart-Williams, created this show through collaboration with a diverse cast of emerging artists, and the choreography reflects individual neurological and psychological responses to the act of falling. This show explores ideas from the chaos of fear to the serenity of surrender and the thrill of risk – the full emotional spectrum of letting go.

This is a work about control within chaos, beauty under pressure, and the quiet equality found when pulled by the same force. At the crossroads of art and science, Echoes of Descent invites audiences to feel, reflect, and fall... together.
