Along the Po River, between the towns of Piacenza and Cremona, Italy, the Caorso ex-nuclear power plant and its surrounding territory of natural and urban environments offers fertile ground for design ideas.

This 13-minute video work produced by Mauro Baracco (Baracco+Wright Architects), in collaboration with students of the Polimi-Milan Polytechnic, focuses on the transformation and redefinition of built and unbuilt areas. A series of interventions revolve around and extend from the reuse of the dismissed plant, speculating on new ways of inhabiting the planet, an alternative to current models driven by production/consumption cycles that go hand in hand with extractive/destructive practises, generating waste and depletion of natural resources.
