Knots of Memory

  • Free
  • Talk

Now in her nineties, and a great-grandmother, Lorna’s memoir, Knots of Memory, is a rattling read, covering a life of teaching, politics, arts and community. She will talk about her life – and share some of her stories – with an old friend, the books and ideas editor of The Conversation, Suzy Freeman-Greene.

Lorna has lived in North Melbourne for more than 60 years. A former Melbourne City Councillor, she helped save the local pool in the 1990s and is a founding member of the Hotham History Project. A teacher, writer, and community artist, she has contributed to various projects at Arts House.

Suzy has more than three decades' experience as a journalist, columnist and editor, writing for publications including The Good Weekend, The Age, The Guardian, Meanjin, Island, Griffith Review and Australian Book Review. She is the founding editor of The Conversation's Books and Ideas section and a former Wheeler Centre Hot Desk fellow.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.
