The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia displays the Australian collection of the art exhibits of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).

Located at Federation Square, it is the world’s first major gallery dedicated exclusively to Australian art. Named after businessman and philanthropist Sir Ian Potter, the centre has a collection numbering almost 25,000 works.

The gallery presents the history of Australian art through a comprehensive program of exhibitions and displays that include photography, prints and drawings, fashion and textiles, and decorative arts.

The centre also acknowledges the power, primacy, and cultural diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art through a suite of galleries dedicated to major historical and contemporary works.

The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia is open daily except on Christmas Day. On Anzac Day it is open from 1pm.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection the Wurundjeri, Bunurong, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wadawurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin have to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We are committed to our reconciliation journey, because at its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples, for the benefit of all Victorians.
