Don't Look Away: The Attention Economy at Play

What if everything you interacted with online was designed to keep you logged in?

At its best, digital design enhances our experiences, creating personal, immersive and gratifying interactions. At its worst, it exploits our habits, our psychology and even our trust.

Urgent limited-time offers. Constant notifications. Daily rewards that keep you coming back for more. Where does engagement end and exploitation begin?

Join the conversation as the curtain is pulled back on the hidden influences at work in game, web and graphic design this Melbourne Design Week.

Together, with a panel of experts including Deb Polson, Dr Jeannie Paterson, Dr Andrew Perfors and Darcy Smith from Studio Folly, explore the responsibilities designers have in shaping online experiences.

Plus, book an add-on ticket to a free pre-event curator tour of the Library's newest exhibition, Make Believe: Encounters with Misinformation.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
