Developing Autobiographical Graphic Novels

  • Workshop
  • Events

Cartoonist and illustrator Mandy Ord shares her passion for autobiographical comics as well as her practical and creative approach to writing engaging personal stories.

Methods for representing the self as a character and the writing through lived experience will be at the core of the workshop. Focusing on the powerful combination of words and pictures central to the dual language of comics, Mandy demonstrates how a technical approach can balance the playful spontaneity that is essential to comics creation.

Mandy Ord is a Naarm/Melbourne based cartoonist and illustrator with a long history of self-publishing autobiographical comics.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We accept the invitation in the Uluru Statement from the Heart and are committed to walking together to build a better future. For more information, visit Aboriginal Melbourne.
