Creative Lab: Bug Out

  • Family and kids
  • Activity

Ever heard of ants that farm bugs for honeydew, bees that buzz like tiny engines to shake pollen loose, or moths that fly over 1,000 kilometres to hide in mountain caves?

Kids will paint their own custom-designed Bug Hero cut-out using vibrant watercolours, then style a ready-to-go diorama with specially crafted props – creating miniature environments where their insects can crawl, climb, and hide. As they create, children will discover the extraordinary survival skills insects use across Victoria’s forests, grasslands, and wetlands – and why even the smallest creatures are vital to our planet’s health.

This 45-minute hands-on workshop is packed with art, storytelling, and discovery. Parents are welcome to stay and join the fun or relax nearby.

Perfect for kids aged 3 to 10 who love to get creative, explore nature, and let their imaginations run free.

Presented as part of Playbound Festival.
