Asian Cinema Collective Presents: Mississippi Masala

  • Film
  • Entertainment

Mira Nair’s Mississippi Masala starring Denzel Washington and Sarita Choudhury is a tender, yet astute exploration of the complexities of identity, displacement and interracial love in the American South.

Released in 1991, Mississippi Masala was groundbreaking at the time for centering an interracial relationship between an Indian woman and a Black man – something rarely depicted in mainstream cinema at the time, or nearly 35 years later.
