Believing Vesuvius to be a normal mountain, the Pompeiians had no word for ‘volcano’.
You are invited to book an appointment at the Office of Chthonic Services (OOCS), a project that examines the apocalypse not as a single cataclysm but as a recurring phenomenon.
Situated in a working office in the Naarm (Melbourne) CBD, OOCS is inhabited by Charon from Accounts – a role performed by artist and OOCS creator Olivia Concetta Lennon. During your appointment, you will be offered a menu of goods and services that examine contemporary, historical, individual and social facets of the end of a world. This project examines the literal examples of an apocalypse, and also aims to further expand the poetics of collapse.
Guests are welcome to visit for a few minutes or up to one hour.
Supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants.
