Gina Kalabishis' Pathways of Desire explores the delicate balance between human impact and nature's resilience. Inspired by the wild beauty of Australian landscapes and the fragile ecosystems of native birds, her works reflect the urgent need for environmental action.
Drawing from Gaston Bachelard's concept of 'desire paths' – routes shaped by repeated use – Kalabishis parallels personal and global choices. With desaturated landscapes and birds in quiet distress, she highlights the looming threat of habitat loss and avian extinction. These paintings are both a poetic reflection and a call to protect the flight paths of our most vulnerable species before they disappear entirely.
