Destiny: Writing from the Diaspora

  • Free
  • Talk

Coinciding with Melbourne Theatre Company’s Destiny, playwright Kirsty Marillier, writer and advocate Carly Findlay and poet Grace Yee explore personal and political histories through a diasporic lens.

At this special, free-to-attend event join Marillier, alongside writer and advocate Findlay (Say Hello) and Victorian Premier’s Literary Award-winning poet Yee (Chinese Fish) for a powerful discussion on cultural heritage, historical record and the role of memory in storytelling. They each will unpack how their storytelling reckons with the past – and reimagines the present.

Destiny is an intimate drama of allure and loyalty, set against the backdrop of the world-changing events of South Africa in 1976. Commissioned and developed through Melbourne Theatre Company’s NEXT STAGE Writers’ Program, Destiny is the latest work by award-winning playwright Kirsty Marillier.
