Dancing Hands: Artist Talk

  • Free
  • Art

This panel conversation brings together three exhibiting artists – Aunty Patsy Doolan (Barkindji), Amy Hammond (Gamilaroi), and Lyn-Al Young (Gunnai, Wiradjuri, Gunditjmara, Yorta Yorta) – to discuss the significance of generational teachings, cultural practices, and the intimate connection between craft, Country and identity.

The talk will be moderated by curator Maya Hodge (Lardil) and provide insight into each artist’s approach to storytelling.

The exhibition Dancing Hands showcases six Aboriginal women artists at different stages of their careers working across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, and South Australia. Through their craft, each artist brings their unique experiences and creative approaches, contributing to the rich tapestry of contemporary Aboriginal art and design.

Presented as part of NAIDOC Week.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong / Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past and present. We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection they have maintained to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.
