Carving a Spoon Workshop

Discover the joy of this time-honoured craft, how to safely carve a spoon, starting out with an ordinary piece of timber and turning it into a treasured piece. Learn the correct usage of hand tools, beginning with a discussion on types of wood, a guide for the tools used and an overview of various wooden carving techniques.

Led by instructor and industrial designer Alma Arriaga (Decoteca Spoons) use a spoon gouge to make the bowl of the spoon and then determine and design the handle and top. Sandpaper and oils finish off your spoon that will last a lifetime. Also learn about the importance of grain direction and tips you can apply to future timber projects.

No experience is necessary, all materials and tools are provided.

Refreshments from 9.45am, byo lunch.
