A Manic Pixie Dream Cabaret

  • Comedy
  • Cabaret

This Manic Pixie Dream Girl has a problem; her protagonist has failed to arrive. With no one else’s struggles to uplift, the 'quirky', 'free spirit' has found herself as the main character of her own story for the first time.

Armed with hilarious tropes, catchy original songs, and the best of intentions, our Dream Girl is forced to forge her own identity. Lace up your roller skates and join this whimsical stock character as she searches for her sense of self; from the coming-of-age films, to the vintage stores...to the psychologist’s office.

Sarah Frencham has always been associated with the Manic Pixie Dream Girl trope. But when early character research led to a surprise AuDHD diagnosis of her own, making fun and making sense of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl got a whole lot more complicated.

A semi-autobiographical parody turned satire turned personal revelation exploring representation, disability and whether self-realisation is really all it’s cracked up to be.
