This exhibition, titled Zoo, refers to the drawings that Emily Dober and her father have made on site at the Melbourne Zoo, as well as the works Emily makes at home (the ‘human zoo’).
Both artists express their response to the subject in a bold and direct way. The drawings made at the zoo convey the experience of seeing an animal momentarily in-between movements. Emily’s works – whether made at the zoo or an imagined response to prompts from popular culture - have an endearing, whimsical quality.
Emily has autism and she is represented by Arts Project Australia. Her father, Mark Dober, is a professional artist based in Castlemaine.
Generously supported by a City of Melbourne Arts Grant.
