Pine Sauna

  • Free
  • Art

Pine Sauna reflects the artist’s upbringing in the pine forests of Minnesota. This familiar, single material reflects both personal memory and sculptural inquiry – a meditation on comfort, solitude and the sensory qualities of heat and wood.

Built using a simple board-by-board assembly – a method reminiscent of traditional log construction – the work emphasises a primitive, almost ritualistic building logic. Standardised pine boards are stacked with minimal intervention, giving form to a contemplative space. Pine, a material prized for its colour and appearance, carries cultural and tactile significance. Its knots and grain are left visible, celebrating the uniqueness of each board within a unified structure.

Freely accessible to the public, Pine Sauna invites spontaneous engagement. Situated within the gallery’s urban context, it offers visitors a brief moment of warmth and reflection – a quiet architectural pause within the city.
