The Australian Ballet: Identity

  • Theatre
  • Dance

See this new program from two of Australia’s leading choreographers.

Evoking a search for cultural perpetuity, the first work, The Hum, is a new dance-theatre work created by Daniel Riley, Wiradjuri man, and Artistic Director of Australian Dance Theatre. Centred upon the tangible yet invisible creative connection between performers, orchestra and audience, this work unites artists of Australian Dance Theatre and The Australian Ballet in a never-before-seen collaboration.

The Australian Ballet's Resident Choreographer Alice Topp premieres her new work Paragon, a powerful tribute to the company's origins, strength and evolution. Paragon explores the pursuit of perfection and excellence in the art form of ballet, while also referencing the idea that the company was formed under conditions of pressure and immense expectations, much like a diamond in the natural world.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection the Wurundjeri, Bunurong, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wadawurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin have to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We are committed to our reconciliation journey, because at its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples, for the benefit of all Victorians.
