Each year, Signal runs a summer holiday program of multi-day workshops called ‘Signal Summer’. This year’s textile sculpture intensive experimented with fibres, fabrics and techniques inspired by the underground.
Mycelium are the master weavers of the ancient fungi kingdom, forming intricate webs made of millions of strands. They are neither plant nor animal, unseen and unheard, hiding in plain sight beneath the soil. Mycelial networks provide invisible support to the planet’s vast ecosystems. They remind us that small beings and small actions hold up enormous foundations.
Inspired by these meticulous natural structures, young artists joined their talents together across six days of organised chaos, culminating in an immersive exhibition at Signal.
