Explore fine textile works by renowned quilting artist Marion Matthews in Melbourne's 160-year-old historic cellar and the former site of the Victoria Brewery. Sit and peruse over a glass or two of wine, a cocktail or shared tapas.
Marion is a textile artist who works predominately with fabrics sourced while travelling. Her quilts are hand constructed using the traditional processes of patchwork construction, with fabrics that range from new to old, mostly hand-printed or dyed, in cotton, linen, silk or wool. Marion prefers to use fabrics with symbols distinctive to their origin in her works that explore the theme of fabric as a single language. Her quilts exemplify the notion that textiles move beyond the artificial borders imposed on communities and that fabric design, although distinctive and symbolic, talks in a common language that we all understand.
