Le Corbusier and Colour

  • Tour
  • Events

Le Corbusier believed that our response to colour is instinctive, colours could affect moods and give different impressions. He was an excellent painter as well as an architect who believed colour is central to human experiences. His approach to colour can be seen in the designs of Villa Savoye 1928-31, Citre radieuse 1947-53, Unite d’Habitation, 1945 and Chandigarh High Court 1955.

Rachel Lacy joins the team at Walsh Street in presenting Le Corbusier and Colour. She talks about Le Corbusier’s approach to ‘polychromie architecturale’, in which designs are conceived in colour from the beginning, as an integral part of the architecture.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection the Wurundjeri, Bunurong, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wadawurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin have to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We are committed to our reconciliation journey, because at its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples, for the benefit of all Victorians.
