Greek Love: The Event

  • Art
  • Talk

In celebration of Pride Month and the launch of its latest exhibition, the Hellenic Museum presents Greek Love, an evening of interactive art and informal talks exploring contemporary revelations of queerness in the ancient Mediterranean. Grab a drink, roam the galleries after hours and tune into a series of engaging but light-hearted discussions led by queer classicists, historians and artists.

This event marks the launch of Greek Love: Outside the Lines, an interactive exhibition where the walls of the Hellenic Museum Contemporary Art Space will become a large scale paint-by-numbers. Once completed by visitors, the final artwork is a vibrant ancient Greek inspired illustration by queer Australian artist Mayticks, which celebrates the beauty in diversity. Guests of Greek Love: The Event will have the exclusive opportunity to make the first mark and hear from the artist herself.

Greek Love: Outside the Lines is supported by the City of Melbourne Arts Grants.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection the Wurundjeri, Bunurong, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wadawurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin have to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We are committed to our reconciliation journey, because at its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples, for the benefit of all Victorians.
