Gloop: Exploring Urban Food Systems in 2049

  • Art
  • Exhibition

A public exhibition exploring future urban food systems through a tour of a 'Gloop Corp' factory in 2049, where global temperature has reached 1.5 degrees and food systems are under strain.

At this time, Gloop Corp presents a new solution: a personalised, AI-enhanced, sustainable food product that transforms into a flavourful feast through 'augmented taste' technology. Gloop claims to challenge preconceived notions of taste and aesthetics, while offering a sustainable alternative to traditional food sources, but at what cost? This new global monofood has its critics: a band of 'real food rebels' is standing up against this AI food revolution.

Explore how our menus, food spaces and dining experiences might be different in a world of Gloop and what we can do to turn this around in the future.

Presented by interdisciplinary future-focused arts practice Futureology, in collaboration with Swinburne University School of Design and Architecture and supporting partner BETA By STH BNK.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection the Wurundjeri, Bunurong, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wadawurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin have to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We are committed to our reconciliation journey, because at its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples, for the benefit of all Victorians.
