Your Christmas visit

Everything you need to know when coming to the city for Christmas.

Getting to the city

Christmas events take place in various locations and unique spaces in Melbourne, including Fed Square, Melbourne Town Hall, Bourke Street Mall and more.

Browse our city maps for more information and see our tips for getting to the city by public transport, car or bicycle.

Once again, the Melbourne Town Hall and Christmas Square are lighting up with 100% wind-powered Christmas cheer.

You can help us make the festive season more sustainable by walking, cycling or using public transport, bringing your own water bottle and reusable bags, and by reducing waste where you can while you're ticking things off your Christmas shopping list.

COVID policy

The health and safety of both the public and participants has been foremost in the design of Christmas events. COVID-safe requirements are subject to change and will be in accordance with advice from the Victorian Chief Health Officer and the Victorian Public Events Framework.

Note that you will need to show evidence of being fully vaccinated or carry evidence of a medical exemption to enter many venues.

To make things easier, get your COVID-19 Digital Certificate and link it to the Service Victoria App. People with valid medical exemptions issued by an authorised medical practitioner and children aged under 16 are excepted.

If you're attending a Christmas event we request that you follow these steps:

  • Show evidence of full vaccination or a medical exemption when entering venues

  • Check in using the Service Victoria QR code at each event

  • Stay home and get tested if you are sick or displaying any known symptoms

  • Wear a face mask indoors and if you cannot maintain physical distancing outdoors

  • Maintain a physical distance of 1.5m from others

  • Practise good hygiene at the event (e.g. cough and sneezing etiquette)

  • Use bins and hand sanitiser stations where provided

  • Follow any displayed instructions and signage

  • Follow instructions by COVID-Safe Marshalls and event staff in relation to COVID-safe practices (e.g. queuing and viewing areas)

To ensure a COVID-safe event, and in keeping with government directives, we are:

  • Using wide open and outdoor spaces as venues to ensure density requirements and social distancing are maintained

  • Conducting health declarations for all staff

  • Providing workers with PPE where appropriate

  • Ensuring regular cleaning schedules are in place

If you have any questions, please contact us and remember to always refer to the latest information from the Victorian Government.
