Becoming Eliza

In 2016, Anna O’Byrne won the role of a lifetime when she was hand-picked by Dame Julie Andrews to play Eliza in the 60th anniversary production of My Fair Lady, which played at Sydney Opera House and on tour. After enchanting audiences across the country, winning rave reviews along the way, Anna won the coveted Helpmann award for her extraordinary performance.

In Becoming Eliza, O’Byrne reflects on her unique experience and shares stories about working intimately with an internationally adored icon, and what it is to share a role, created sixty years apart as well as the lessons she learned from both Dame Julie and Eliza.

This acclaimed concert evening features iconic songs from beloved musicals on stage and screen including Camelot, Mary Poppins, The Sound of Music, Victor/Victoria and, of course, My Fair Lady.

The City of Melbourne respectfully acknowledges the Traditional Owners of the land we govern, the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Bunurong Boon Wurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin and pays respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.

We acknowledge and honour the unbroken spiritual, cultural and political connection the Wurundjeri, Bunurong, Dja Dja Wurrung, Taungurung and Wadawurrung peoples of the Eastern Kulin have to this unique place for more than 2000 generations.

We are committed to our reconciliation journey, because at its heart, reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal peoples, for the benefit of all Victorians.
