Find a hub for hidden bars, indie makers and freshly-roasted coffee in and around Errol Street, just north of the CBD. Meet for brunch before spending a day wandering in and out of vintage boutiques and bookshops, catch some comedy or take the kids to try VR gaming. Shop artisan chocolate and cakes to take home and pick a pub to unwind in. Whether you’re after a casual bite or table for two, here are some foodie picks to choose from.

Café courtyard under blossoming tree

Twenty and Six Espresso

Good things come in small packages, like Twenty and Six Espresso’s cool leafy courtyard. Ease into the day with excellent coffee and grilled haloumi with avo and beetroot relish. Or go for the crispy pork sandwich or brioche French toast with lemon curd. Try the espresso shakes for the best of both worlds.

Table covered in plates of food and drinks - bacon and eggs, waffles, slices and more.

Apollo Cafe

Nestled in the 1926 Mighty Apollo building, the Apollo Cafe serves up Five Senses coffee and all-day brunch. Try the chorizo panini, wild shroom ragu or Japanese poached salmon potato salad. Pick up a jar of house-made raspberry jam or a coffee scrub on your way out. Come back for Friday night espresso martinis and keep an eye out for events.

Ravioli covered in fresh vegetables.

Sosta

If Sosta Cucina isn’t on your fine-dining bucket list yet, add it ASAP under ‘best Italian in the city’. The menu centres around handmade pasta, market-fresh seafood and seasonal antipasti. Start with Portarlington mussels and bruschetta, or prosciutto with buffalo mozzarella. Indulge in blue swimmer crab linguine or burnt sage gnocchi at your chandelier-lit table. The wine list is sublime and the Belgian white chocolate panna cotta is a must for dolce.
