Tea and refreshments for those interested in Cantonese opera culture, ahead of a charity Cantonese opera performance.
An introduction to customs such as worshipping Huaguang, the patron saint of Cantonese opera. Fruits and roast suckling pigs will be provided to Huaguang to bless the success of the performance.
In ancient China, the stage of Cantonese opera was made of wood, and the performers used wooden boats as their means of transportation. As a result, it was easy for fire to occur during the performance of Cantonese opera. According to Chinese folklore, Huaguang is the God of fire, so people take Huaguang as their ancestor to pray for a successful performance.
Note this event is separate to the Cantonese opera. For details about that performance, please visit the AQI Public Relations' social pages.
