Award-winning vocalist, songwriter and producer Sofía Rei is one of the most passionate and inventive artists on the NY music scene. She explores connections between traditions of South American folklore, jazz, flamenco and electric sounds. From Buenos Aires, Rei ties influences of complex rhythms, and pure melody that haunts as it uplifts. She has collaborated with John Zorn (Mycale and the Song Project), Maria Schneider, Bobby McFerrin, Myra Melford, Pedrito Martinez, and Geoffrey Keezer (with whom she received a Grammy Nomination for Best Latin Jazz Album).
Rei’s third album, De Tierra Y Oro received two independent awards in category for Best Album and Best Song, 2013. Her new LP, El Gavilán, is tribute to South American icon Violeta Parra, recorded with eclectic guitarist Marc Ribot and Violeta's grandson Angel Parra. Sofía has featured on The New York Times, NPR Tiny Desk, and more. Her music has taken her around the world including Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, Blue Note, the Kennedy Center, Chicago World Music Festival, SFJazz, Montreal Jazz Festival, Cité de la Musique, Weiner Konzerthaus (Vienna), the Barbican, Teatro Colsubsidio (Bogotá), Panama World Music, and others.
