Docklands History Group: Understanding the Birrarung

Image1

Description

Colonisation of the Melbourne area since 1835 has had a significant impact on the Birrarung (Yarra River) and the traditional custodians of the land, the people of the Kulin Nation.

Despite the impact on traditional way of life, which has been felt for generations, the people and their culture have survived.

The cultural significance of the Birrarung remains and traditional stories and culture can found in many places and art along the river.
