 Maylei Hunt: Let's Eat Cake

Description

Let's Eat Cake! is a Midsumma exhibition in partnership with City of Melbourne Libraries that celebrates the first year of equal marriage rights.

'It's personal. I have always marched and have felt it important to document our journey, of our fight for marriage equality. I am thrilled and proud that this has happened in my (our) life-time.' Maylei Hunt, photographer.

Legal recognition of equal rights in marriage legislation represents an important step towards equal respect, acceptance and acknowledgment of loving relationships between members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans-gendered, trans-sexual and intersex (LGBTI) communities. It is a human right to be acknowledged equally.

For more than 14 years Australians have taken to the streets rallying for marriage equality. Hunt's photographic series documents the LGBTI communities of Sydney and Melbourne, and their straight allies, marching together for marriage equality. This exhibition commemorates all those who participated.
