 We Die As We Live

Image1Image2Image3

Description

We Die as We Live is the resulting exhibition from a year-long, art in health, research project devised and implemented by 2017 St Vincent's Hospital artist-in-residence Catherine Bell, a multidisciplinary artist, visual arts lecturer and Associate Professor at the Australian Catholic University.

One hundred staff members participated in this collaborative art in health project, which solicited staff as co-creators in the work, challenging the role of the artist and socially-engaged art in the healthcare setting. The rationale behind the collaboration is how art can be a catalyst for promoting healthier discussions and meaningful reflection on death and dying.

There will be over 200 works on paper that represent personal reflections of death, a video and selected images of sculptural forms that visualise each participant's own mortality, and a site-specific installation.

Supported by a the City of Melbourne’s Arts Grants Program.
