 Here by Stephen Banham

Image1

Description

If you're passing the corner of Cardigan and Queensberry streets, take a moment to pause and ponder 'Here' – a new temporary public artwork.

Artist Stephen Banham flips the idea of memorialising on its head by marking the birthplace of an idea.

An oversized graphic marker indicates the spot where an incidental, inconsequential, yet profound idea was born. The public art piece is in stark contrast to the countless plaques and monuments we see dotted across our city commemorating people and birthplaces.

Experience the work in all its illuminated glory after dark or check it out on your lunch break.

This project was made possible by Test Sites, a City of Melbourne initiative that gives artists the opportunity to experiment with temporary projects in the public realm.
