Founded in 1953, the Melbourne Theatre Company (MTC) is Australia’s oldest professional theatre company, producing up to 12 plays in a subscription season.
MTC productions appear in two venues in the Southbank Theatre: the 500-seat Sumner and the Lawler theatres. Several function rooms are available for hire, and the Script Bar and Bistro is on-site.
Several large-scale productions are staged each season in the 880-seat Playhouse at nearby Arts Centre Melbourne, with smaller-scale MTC works being hosted in the Arts Centre's Fairfax Studio.
Victoria’s premier theatre company and one of the major performing arts companies in Australia, MTC also runs education and studio programs.
