One of the most loved things about Melbourne is its picturesque parks, gardens and green spaces, which all have a colourful story to tell.
Alexandra Gardens
St Kilda Road, Melbourne
On the south bank of the Yarra River, the Alexandra Gardens connect to Kings Domain, the Domain parklands and the landscaped Royal Botanic Gardens.
Batman Park
2A Spencer Street, Melbourne
On the Yarra’s northern bank, bordered by Spencer, Flinders and King streets, Batman Park name checks one of Melbourne’s founding fathers, John Batman.
Birrarung Marr
Batman Avenue, Melbourne
Birrarung Marr, on the Yarra River’s north bank next to Federation Square, is Melbourne's newest major park. Opened in 2002, it hosts events and festivals. From Princes Bridge, the park incorporates three terraces of contrasting grass and sand.
Carlton Gardens
1-111 Carlton Street, Carlton
Designed for the Melbourne International Exhibition of 1880, the Royal Exhibition Building and surrounding Carlton Gardens are World Heritage listed.
Conservatory
Fitzroy Gardens, Wellington Parade, East Melbourne
Built in classic Spanish Mission style, complete with adobe colour palette, the Fitzroy Garden’s lovely Conservatory building opened in March 1930. It is currently closed for major works and maintenance until late 2020.
Docklands Park

The landscaped gardens of Docklands Park at Victoria Harbour have free barbecue facilities, public art and the Play Journey interactive playground.
Enterprize Park
469-503 Flinders Street, Melbourne
Enterprize Park commemorates the spot where the first settlers aboard the good ship Enterprize went ashore to establish a settlement on 30 August 1835.
Fawkner Park
24-88 Commercial Road, South Yarra
Named after Melbourne's co-founder, John Pascoe Fawkner, and first reserved in 1862, Fawkner Park remains largely unchanged from its original design.
Fitzroy Gardens
230-298 Wellington Parade, East Melbourne
Fitzroy Gardens is one of Melbourne’s most historic and beautiful Gardens.
Flagstaff Gardens
309-311 William Street, West Melbourne
The Flagstaff Gardens have been reserved as parklands since 1862, and today the stretches of lawn are the lunch spot of choice for local office workers.
