Description

The Melbourne Athenaeum Library is Victoria's oldest subscription library, operating since 1839 and open to library members and the general public.

This subscription-based library offers more than 30,000 volumes of biography, science fiction, fantasy, history, current best sellers, journals and popular magazines, detective fiction and classics.

Members can borrow up to 30 items at one time, for up to four weeks and also have access to free wi-fi, use of iPads, printers and photocopiers. The library hosts several book clubs and events,

Established in 1839 as Melbourne's first mechanics institute, the heritage-listed Melbourne Athenaeum has operated from its Collins Street headquarters for more than 175 years.
